What About The Oath?
I hear that NHS doctors are threatening to strike again, over pay. I have a couple of points to make here. First, it is my understanding that doctors and medical professionals take a Hippocratic Oath when entering the profession. Well, taking strike action would go against that Oath, would it not?. Or do these doctors not take the Oath seriously? Focusing on pay; one of the arguments in support of the strike is that doctors could easily leave the NHS in pursuit of similar jobs in other countries (such as Australia) where the pay is significantly better (supposedly). This leads me to my next point… Perhaps our system needs to be amended, so that the NHS is not fully funded by public funds, but partially funded by individuals. This could soften the burden on taxpayers, and increase doctors’ pay. Ergo, a win-win for all.
